bleid remixed naive001’s togetherness by violet, and that dope rework made it to rroxymore’s bag (as heard at berghain) and was played on bbc radio 6, rinse fm and +++. the pair became friends, started bouncing ideas about production techniques, rap skills and the importance (or lack thereof) of the classics in dance music. making more music together happened naturally.
naive002 feels like a continuation of naive’s first release in some ways: the jungle-inspired chopped breaks, sonic synth work and oneiric pads are still there but gain a heavier, perhaps more somber tone at times, exploding into depth or ecstasy at others.

after his appearance on born free records, rollerboys recordings, and rett i fletta, johannes wilkstrom aka yourhighness contributes to cocktail d amore music with stratofortress. the berlin based imprint gathered techno guru rrose, born free records owner samo dj, and international japanese wave representative gonno, to offer an ep with a wide range of interpretations of the title track. the original mix is an acid based, industrial influenced techno banger. highly energetic, for sweaty late-night dance floors. on the same side samo dj transforms the techno blaster into a funky ebm ballad, characterized by a deep male voice and a breakbeat groove. rrose is on remix duty on the b-side. stratofortress suddenly turns into a dubby, everlasting build up, that eventually implodes in the depth of a black hole. closing the ep gonno offers a slow-mo rework. deep and very cinematic, this remix will please every cosmic hole connaisseur.

louie vega re-ignites the disco classic “dance (disco heat)” by sylvester grammy awarding winning producer & 5 time grammy nominated louie vega continues to send dance floors into a peak hour frenzy with his remixes of disco classics on nervous records. the inspiration to delve into masters from this era began when he started remixing masters from the sam records catalogue, which is owned by nervous records, and with whom louie has a long history going back to nervous early 90’s origins. louie is that unique producer who has had success in multiple genres of music including house, r&b, & freestyle and he has brought that talent to help re-ignite new york disco classics like vicky d’s -this beat is mine- and convertion’s -let’s do it- featuring leroy burgess, as well as charting topping disco hits from john davis & the monster orchestra -bourgie bourgie- & -up jumped the devil-. this time, louie put his focus on a track outside of the sam records catalogue, and one that was an international disco hit that also crossed over to becoming a 1978 pop hit, namely sylvester / dance (disco heat). using elements from the 1978 version and combining them with his own original musical and percussion contributions, along with new vocal performances from renowned singer cindy mizelle, louie has refashioned and reignited this 39 year-old production into a 2018 club anthem.

get physical is proud to announce the release of the first ever album from chicago house luminary dj pierre. entitled wild pitch: the story, it collects originals and remixes old and new, and stands as a testament to the unique skill of one of dance musics most important figures. famously, dj pierre as good as invented the squelch of acid house when playing with his roland tr-303 drum machine as part of phuture back in the late eighties. from there he went on to clock up more than 200 credits under aliases like doomsday, prime one, raving lunatics, ac!d face, dj pierres afro acid project and many more. he also became famous for the wild pitch mixes and alias that lend this album its name: they were characterised by long intros, layer upon layer of strings, repetitive vocal samples, and filtered hypnotic sounds on hard beats. working with labels like strictly rhythm, trax, king street, nite grooves, international deejay gigolo and more recently get physical, pierre has contributed hugely to the global evolution of house music for thirty years plus. this is a timely reminder of that and one that is jam packed with essential tunes that, old or new, still sound impossibly fresh. included is a cover version of donna summers classic and pioneering disco cut ‘i feel love. it is a 9 minute masterpiece of loose drums, wild acid lines and synthesised squelches that build and build before the vocal arrives and carries you away to the stars

hailing from viennas thriving techno scene, meat recordings is setting out to leave its mark on the international techno circuit. with a legacy of running club nights for almost a decade as well as five critically acclaimed digital releases, this compilation represents the next step in the labels history. meat your maker 1 is a four tracker showcasing the diversity of this crew. it features tracks by the labels own artists matt mor, specific objects and gerald vdh as well as a contribution by newrhythmic label boss joton, which range from functional, sexy and trippy techno stompers to techno-compatible neurofunk.

first release on trevor jacksons new unreleased archive recordings label pre- is a timeless collection of twisted techno, militant ebm and filthy electro produced by jackson himself and featuring vocals from douglas (nitzer ebb) mcarthy & chloe from c.a.r. originally produced in 2003 as a playgroup side project, pinklunch made its debut with a demo track on a dj hell international deejay gigolo compilation, tracks also appeared on compilations for the exclusive parisian department store collette and the berlin club f.u.n. the album lay in hibernation for nearly 15 years, gathering digital dust, rediscovered in 2014 trevor lovingly re-edited and remastered the original mixes as well as getting guest vocalists douglas mcarthy from nitzer ebb and chloe from c.a.r to appear on two tracks.

man of war is a significant sonic progression for the band. opening track gaia sets the tone for the release perfectly. heavy, brooding bass and glitchy, synth stabs create an imposing sonic backdrop for tom’s menacing vocal to hang on. lead and title track man of war is driven by its propulsive beats and more washes of bass and eerie electronic touches. fall crocus finds the band in contemplative mood. a heavy, regretful air hangs over the track and brings to mind the work of international superstar and mercury prize winner james blake, who the band has toured with, as well as mount kimbie and ghostpoet previously. final original cut cosmos pink is perhaps the album’s most touching effort. cloud boat have always been a band capable of inducing sincere emotion and this release is no different, taking the listener on a powerful, cathartic journey through life’s big issues. remix wise, the release features offerings from phaeleh and la – 4a. each act brings its own distinguishable flavour to man of war. phaeleh’s version features his trademark, cinematic, take on house electronics and is a typically atmospheric effort, while la – 4a takes cloud boat in a modern techno direction.

nigeria’s kingsley bucknor’s ‘just u and me’ lp gets the long-awaited reissue treatment from melbourne’s left ear records. after cutting his teeth playing with fela in the 70’s and releasing two afrobeat lp’s kingsley travelled the globe before finding himself in london, it’s here that he laid down 6 distinctive electro-funk tunes inspired by african rhythms and music he’d heard through his travels in the states and in europe. originally issued on kinglsley’s own kab records in ’85 and according to kingsley the release was well received at the time, but due to constraints of international marketing the record remained mostly unknown outside of his homeland. fast-forward to 2017 and the stage is set for a new global audience to appreciate the distinct sound of kb.

strut present the first ever new international studio album by one of the all-time great african big bands, orchestre les mangelepa. “last band standing” is out now! comprising congolese musicians who settled in kenya, les mangelepa helped drive the east african evolutionary spur of one of the greatest musical artforms, african rumba, during the 1970s.

after mukatsuku records summer hammond organ screamer from billy hawks (mukat 052) the label goes deep on an international funk tip. few years ago label manager nik played in france and the promoter pulled out a biosis now 45 that he never knew existed up till then and was generally thought to be a long album track only. an extensive search revealed nothing online including popsike/discogs/ebay except a tropical seller who d just bought a huge caribbean collection with the record included saying he d never seen it before either and he was keeping itâ&#128,¦failing to secure a copy themselves the label licensed it instead and created their own 45 edit which retains all the funk & soul of the elongated album version into a 7 inch friendly format. on the flipside and 1973 tumba safari from afro train get s a funky afrobeat re touch for peak time club play that would save you several hundred pounds on an original if you could actually find a copy !

dark entries and emotional rescue team up to further explore psychic tv’s acid house years. psychic tv was formed by genesis p-orridge and peter christopherson of throbbing gristle with alex fergusson of alternative tv in 1981. after various line up changes, the band shifted direction to dance oriented songs influenced by the house and techno scenes of detroit and chicago. by 1988 the group included dave ball of soft cell, fred giannelli of turning shrines and matthew best of carcrash international. during the summer of 1988 the group recorded a batch of songs at time square studios in london that would appear under the guise of various artists compilations jack the tab’ and ‘tekno acid beat’. the idea behind these ‘compilations of imaginary artists was creating a sense that a healthy acid house scene existed in the uk. virginia was the studio project of dave “mista luv” ball and then-wife virginia “gini” ball, a classical violinist who toured and recorded with siouxsie and the banshees and marc almond.

limited to 300 copies! following his recent releases on tartelet records and oye, uffe kicks off the nos classics label with a record consisting of three mutated disco tracks that marks the start of his own new copenhagen-based label. run together with fellow tartelet affiliates vktr and jeppe wolmer (of vivian international) the first records a-side is a dubbed out percussive testament to the darkest and saddest times of uffe s life. a2 is a melodic and dreamy homage to one certain apartement located on the lijnbaangracht in the jordaan area in amsterdam. on the top floor of this worn down old house there was light to be found in these dark times. on the flip-side tings gets trippy. the title track finds uffe deeply intertwined in an occult-like bass-heavy ritual. an attempt to escape reality and cure the scandinavian misanthropy and the grey weather it comes with. a twelve minute voodoo disco tool perfectly crafted for a dancefloor which most probably does not exist.
